Joan Gatti is an Italian fiddle player and violinist, widely recognized as one of the most renowned and virtuosic performers of traditional music in Italy and Europe. Currently based in Norway, he is known for his innovative use of mistuned fiddle tunings, exploring the expressive possibilities of non-standard tunings in traditional and contemporary folk music. Gatti studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Norges musikkhøgskole) in Oslo and completed his Master’s in Swedish Folk Music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (Kungliga Musikhögskolan).
In Gadan, Joan brings his unique style and deep musical sensitivity through the fiddle and the Hardanger fiddle, adding an incredible value to the band’s sound with his expressive phrasing and innovative approach to traditional melodies. His mastery of Scandinavian techniques, combined with classical & folk roots, enriches the band’s performances with a distinctive and powerful energy.
