Enda Scahill is an Irish tenor banjo virtuoso, recognized as one of the leading figures in modern Irish traditional and progressive folk music. Born in Galway, he grew up immersed in the banjo and fiddle traditions of the West of Ireland, developing a distinctive style that blends traditional Irish ornamentation with the drive of bluegrass and the rhythmic clarity of contemporary acoustic music.
A four-time All Ireland Champion, Enda is the founder and co-leader of the internationally acclaimed band We Banjo 3, known for its fusion of Irish trad, bluegrass and Americana.
His innovative right-hand technique, melodic precision and refined phrasing have made him a reference point for tenor banjo players worldwide. With We Banjo 3 he has toured extensively across Europe and North America, performing at major festivals, cultural centers and renowned folk venues.
He also runs an online academy for banjo playing at Irish Banjo Lessons, where he offers guided courses, tutorials and masterclasses designed for learners of Irish tenor banjo at every level.
In a recent collaborative project titled The Dark Well, Enda joined forces with harmonica master Joel Andersson to push the boundaries of tradition, combining banjo, harmonica and guest musicians from jazz, Americana and Celtic backgrounds.
Enda collaborates with the folk band Gadan, bringing his signature banjo sound to a powerful blend of Irish trad, bluegrass energy and Appalachian old time influences. His presence in Gadan strengthens the connection between the modern Irish banjo scene and the next generation of European and American roots projects.
